NVIDIA Canvas is a well-executed, genuinely free tool for a specific job: turning rough painted shapes into a landscape image, running locally with no per-use cost. Within that lane it is satisfying and fast, and the local, private processing is a real advantage over cloud generators.
The GPU requirement locks most people out before they start, the scope never expanded past landscapes, and years in beta with no roadmap makes its long-term future an open question rather than a plan.
